Mail on Sunday breached Daniel's privacy

The UK Press Complaints Commission has ruled that the Mail on Sunday breached the editors' code by reporting on the location of Daniel's new home.

The watchdog said clause three (privacy) of the code meant newspapers should not "gratuitously identify the homes of individuals who might be exposed to specific security problems".

The Mail on Sunday published a story in October with the headline: "£4m home where Bond will find a quantum of solitude." It reported on Craig buying an apartment in North London, and featured a picture of the building.

The PCC said that Daniel had to take extra security measures against unwanted attention from fans, and had expressed concern for the safety of his partner and child following the story.

Craig complained that the nature of the house and its colour would make it easily recognisable to fans, and could therefore jeopardise his privacy.

The paper argued that it had avoided printing any information about the address of the apartment, and the area referred to in the article covered a large part of North London.

However, the PCC ruled that the paper printed too much information about the apartment's location, and ran the risk of identifying the building without justification.

The commission acknowledged that the Mail on Sunday had removed the story from its website and offered to apologise to Craig and not republish the details in the article. It said it accepted that the steps taken by the paper were a suitable remedy.

Daniel's Poster Boosts Harrogate Auction

Daniel donated a signed poster to the Harrogate charity auction. According to the Harrogate Advertiser:

The auction's organiser, Ruth Watson, a former soldier from Harrogate who wanted to raise money for servicemen and women injured abroad, fielded calls from TV shows and Bond fans as they tried to buy the signed poster ahead of last Saturday's Help for Heroes charity auction. But it was an unnamed woman from Harrogate who secured the prize for a generous £600.

Mrs Watson said: "One guy had every James Bond signature apart from Daniel Craig's, and that's why he came along. "But the lady bidder was very persistent that she wanted it on her wall - much to her husband's disappointment!" The 140 tickets, for the auction at St John Fisher School, sold out early at £5 apiece.

"The support has been fantastic," said Mrs Watson, who works as a welfare officer for the school. "Once Daniel Craig got involved, it just snowballed. It started quite slow, but then it got quite out of hand and just started rolling. I was aiming to raise £2,000 but I actually made just over £3,500 so I'm really over the moon. That will make it possible for us to go that extra mile, it will help so much."

Daniel Helps Search for Missing Hearing Aid

Peregrine Worsthorne wrote in the New Statesman: "If I were writing the Diary for the celebrity-obsessed Spectator, I would undoubtedly start by describing how, at a Notting Hill Gate party I attended recently - given by my sister-in-law, the author and actress Anne Lambton - a fellow guest, Daniel Craig, the great film star, took the lead in searching for my hearing aid. Having looked in all the chairs and sofas, he turned in desperation to the dustbins, not hesitating to plunge his arms into the kitchen waste within - hardly a role James Bond would have volunteered to undertake (and still less Bond's creator, Ian Fleming). Nor was that all. For when it transpired that the hearing aid was not lost but hiding in my shirt, having fallen through the open collar, Craig managed to smile rather than scowl; and it was he who went off to the off-licence when the booze ran out. All in all, a good sport, and quite unspoilt."
